Ingredients
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
4 eggs
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 8 oz package cream cheese, room temperature
Preparation
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Chop chocolate into small pieces. Melt butter and chocolate in small heavy saucepan, stirring constantly, over low heat. Remove from heat, set aside. Beat 3 of the eggs in bowl of electric mixer until well blended. slowly beat in 2 cups of the sugar. Add flour, salt, 1 teaspoon of the vanilla and nuts. Scrape down sides of bowl. Add melted chocolate, mix well. Spread half of the chocolate batter into a greased and floured 9x13 inch baking pan. Beat cream cheese with remaining 1/2 cup sugar in separate bowl until smooth. Add remaining egg and vanilla until thoroughly blended. Add half of cream cheese mixture on top of chocolate batter. Lightly swirl batter in criss-cross pattern using tip of knife. Repeat with remaining chocolate batter. Bake 20 minutes. Lower oven temperature to 325 degrees. Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 20 minutes. Allow brownies to cool in pan on rack. Cut into squares.
