Ingredients
2 cups bread - stale is fine
2 1/4 cups milk
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup raisins (optional, golden are best)
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Scald milk, butter & sugar. Beat eggs, vanilla & salt. In a large bowl fully saturate bread pieces, first with egg & then slightly cooled milk mixture. Pour into 1 quart baking dish. Place in larger baking dish with warm water. Bake until golden, about one hour. It’s OK to experiment with the amount of liquids. More liquid yields more pudding-like results..
