Ingredients

2 C flour

½ C sugar

1 ½ tsps baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

¼ tsp salt

6 TBS butter, chilled

½ C Buttermilk

1 large egg

1 ½ tsps vanilla extract

2/3 C raisins or currents (optional)

Preparation

Stir dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Cut butter into ½" cubes and blend into mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir together buttermilk, egg and vanilla and add to mixture along with raisins or currents, if desired.

Pat the dough into an 8" diameter circle, on an ungreased baking sheet (or you can cut out large biscuits). Cut the dough into wedges. Bake for 18-20 minutes at 400.
