Ingredients

3 C cut up dates

1/4 C Sugar (optional)

1 1/2 C Water

3/4 C Butter

1 C Packed Brown Sugar

1 3/4 C Sifted Flour

1 tsp Salt

1/2 tsp Baking Soda

1 1/2 C Reg or Quick Oats

Preparation

Combine dates, sugar & water in saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, til thickened. About 10 mins. Set aside to cool. Cream butter & sugar. Sift flour, salt & soda; stir into butter mixture. Stir in oats, mixing thoroughly. Place half of the crumb mixture in greased 9 x 13 pan, pressing & flattening with hands to cover bottom. Spread with coooled date filling. Cover with remaining crumb mixture patting lightly. Bake at 375 F 25-30 minutes til lightly browned. While warem, cut & remove from pan.
