Ingredients
Meat layer preparation:
1 large onion, chopped well
2 garlic cloves, chopped well
1 lb ground beef
oregano
Preparation
Sauté onion & garlic in olive oil over low heat for 5 min. Add 1 lb ground beef, brown lightly. Add oregano to taste.
Sauce:
½ medium onion, chopped well - Sauté. Add 2 small cans of tomato paste. Add a little tomato juice to thin. Add some chopped celery leaves, a bay leaf, ¼ tsp basil, a small amount of nutmeg, 1 tsp lemon peel & 1 tsp brown sugar. Cook ½ hour. Don’t boil.
Noodles:
Boil 1 package wide lasagna noodles in 6 quarts salted water to which a little olive oil has been added. Cook until noodles are tender, but not soft. Then, fill pot gently with cold water; do not drain off hot water.
Layer pasta, meat, sauce and cheese of choice (ricotta &/or mozzarella), ending with mozzarella.
