Ingredients

1/2 cup Black Eyed beans

1/2 cup Dried peas

1/3 cup Dried Chick peas

2 Spring Onions

1 Medium sized Onion

2 Tomatoes

3 pods of Garlic

1 Green Chili

1 cup of finely chopped Fresh Dill (Sabaski Soppu)

Oil - 2 Tbs

Soaked Tamarind - size of a coin

Preparation

  1. The bean mix should be soaked for 5-6 hours and then cooked in pressure cooker, so that it is ready to use.
  2. Run 1/4th of the bean mix in the blender to make a coarse paste. We will use this to thicken our stew.
  3. Run 2/3rd of the chopped tomato in the blender to puree
  4. Heat the oil in a large flat pan
  5. Add the turmeric, the jeera (cumin), and red chilie powder. After this add the chopped green chilie and garlic as well as the onion and green onion. Fry on low heat till onion softens.
  6. Add the chopped dill.
  7. Next add both the remaining chopped tomato as well as the tomato paste, as well as a little water and simmer for a few minutes.
  8. Add the bean mix as well as the bean paste. Continue to let the stew simmer for at least 10 mins.
  9. Add salt, tamarind water and a little suger (optional) according to taste.
  10. Simmer for 5 mins additionally .
  11. Your mixed bean stew is ready !
