Ingredients

1/3 cup vegetable shortening

1/3 cup butter flavored shortening

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 egg

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preparation

Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. Cream both types of shortening together with both types of sugar in a mixer until light and fluffy. Reduce speed and slowly add egg and vanilla extract. Wait until fully incorporated. Slowly add dry ingredients. Reduce to slowest speed and stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Make into 1.5-inch balls and place on sheet pans lined with parchment. Bake for 8 minutes at 375 degrees or until golden brown around the edges. Move parchment sheets with cookies to cooling racks to cool completely.
