Ingredients

1lb chopped dates

2 cups boiling water

1tbsp shortening

1 cup sugar

1 tsp salt

2 egg

3 cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

2 tsp baking powder

1 cup nuts

Preparation

Pour boiling water over the dates and shortening and let cool.

Add sugar, salt and eggs to the date mixture and mix.

Mix flour, soda, powder and nuts together and fold into wet ingredients. Pour batter into a greased loaf pan. You can also split into small loaf pans.

Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes, shorter in convection oven.
