Ingredients

All ingredients must be room temp

Cake:

4 sticks unsalted butter

1 heaping T Crisco, creamed

6 C sugar

1 dozen eggs

6 C cake flour

1 C sour cream

1 C whipping cream

2 T vanilla or almond extract

Icing:

2 sticks unsalted butter

4 C shifted powdered sugar

1 T vanilla or almond extract

Preparation

  1. Combine butter and crisco and cream it
  2. Add sugar
  3. Add eggs slowly, one at a time and beat each well
  4. Sift flour then re-measure
  5. Add sour cream and whipping cream, slowly alternating with the flour
  6. Add vanilla
  7. Grease round take pans (3" tall and 8-9" diameter), cut parchement paper rounds and sides and flour and grease them
  8. Fill pans a little more than 1/2 full
  9. Bake at 305 for 1hr 10mins to 1hr 20mins. When you stick a skewer in it should not come out clean. it should have wet clumps on it
